Choosing chairs for a table never seems as difficult as purchasing bar stools because they often are purchased as a set. But choosing the right stools for a counter or bar is a different matter. It's important to identify bar stools that fit with the style that is trying to be achieved in the room, but it's equally important to find stools that will be as comfortable as possible for the function they will play in the room. That requires finding stools of the correct height, and deciding about whether such things as seat cushions, arms, and swivel motion will improve everyone's experience.
This guide will look at some of the styles of bar stools that are available, from retro vinyl and chrome "diner" seating to Mediterranean-influenced iron designs. Then it will consider the single most important issue in selecting bar stools: the height. Next, it will look at other comfort issues such as seats, arms, and motion. It will also discuss how the stool design helps determine how many stools will fit at a counter. And finally, it will conclude with a discussion of how to purchase a bar stool grouping.
